Arc Flash & Coordination Studies
Arc Flash & Coordination Studies
Safety is a top priority here at ESP Electric, especially when it comes to the risks associated with arc flash incidents, which can cause severe injuries and equipment damage.
To mitigate these risks, we offer specialized Arc Flash and Coordination Studies as part of our comprehensive suite of services. These studies involve a detailed analysis of a facility’s electrical system, from the utility service entrance down to individual circuit breakers and fuses. Using sophisticated modeling software, we simulate different fault conditions to assess the potential for arc flash hazards. The study identifies the level of incident energy that workers could be exposed to during an arc flash event and recommends appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as safety labels for electrical equipment.
In addition to Arc Flash Studies, our highly trained electricians also perform Coordination Studies aimed at optimizing the performance of protective devices like circuit breakers and relays.
The goal is to ensure that these devices are properly coordinated to isolate faults as quickly as possible while minimizing the impact on the rest of the system. This means that if a fault occurs in one part of the electrical system, only the affected section will be disconnected, keeping the rest of the facility up and running. These studies often go hand-in-hand with Arc Flash Studies, as improving device coordination can also reduce arc flash hazards.
